JuggaLobo Part II: THE PUNCHENING

Yeah, I know, “Liefeld can’t draw feet har-har-har,” but man … Liefeld cannot draw feet.

This poor colorist, you get the sense that he’s just trying to get a sense of shape and form and basic human anatomy in the midst of the poo pile that is Leifeld’s art.  Not only that, but you can tell Liefeld is totally biting Jim Lee’s (also terrible) art style by saving all the “detail” for the neck and face strain/stress lines. Like seriously, if you were to take a ratio of linework, 85% of it would be in the faces of his characters.  SIGH.
BUT WAIT - THERE’S MORE! If you look at the left margin of this image, you can clearly see that either it was cropped too far out, or Rob Liefeld simply STOPPED TRYING to draw a left wrist! Or both!
Questions: 1) Where is the light source coming from that is lighting Lobo’s back in such a way?
2) Why is Lobo’s foot blob hovering over Deathstroke’s shoulderpad?  But it’s also flat on the ground?
3) Why is Deathstroke’s head … SMALLER that Lobo’s foot blob?
4) Lobo’s hair..?
5) where’s the rest of Lobo’s right leg disappeared to?  is the knee actually resting in Deathstroke’s elbow joint or inexplicably hovering/connecting as well?
It appears that Jim Lee must love himself so much, that he keeps pushing Liefeld work out there, simply because it makes him feel so good to know that really terrible artists (who’ve never had an art class) try their darndest to draw - like Jim Lee.
And I take it back. the colorist is only making things worse.
ugh. whoever buys this comic should reconsider their life choices.

francismanapul:

The cover to Flash #3. I wanted to keep the colors minimal and keep the graphic element of the image be the main focus of the cover. It’s a simple cover but I think it would stand out on the comic racks.

This is why i love Francis Manapul: Like Cliff Chiang’s Flying Graysons/Deadman comic covers, Francis GETS illustration AND design in a way that is simple, eye catching, and informative and yet doesn’t lose sight of the character.

I’ll buy whatever he’s selling.
