As if we needed more reasons to like Francesco Francavilla’s work.
Over at Pulp Sunday, Francesco Francavilla talks about a Batman story he’s been working on developing for the just-announced new season of DC’s Wednesday Comics.
Not having followed Batman in recent times or Detective comics ever, I picked up Detective Comics 871 yesterday as they had the 2nd printing in. I’d found out after the 1st had sold out that there was a new creative team working on the series, with Scott Snyder writing, Jock doing the main art and boss▲battle favorite Francesco Francavilla doing the backpages story art.
Let’s just say I’m hooked, I love the hints of German Expressionism and use of chiaroscuro in Jock’s realist comics style, it’s a bit of Gleason-meets-Sale-meets-Mignola. And Snyder is crafting a story fitting of older Batman series in the detective work and characterization of Dick Grayson as a darker, more 3-dimensional Dark Knight.
And Francavilla… There’s no better guy out there drawing detective/pulp stuff. I’m excited for 874, he’s got all 32 pages to himself.
Francesco Francavilla’s Firebreather for this week’s TWART.
He never disappoints. If you’re not following Pulp Sunday you’re missing out.
Francesco Francavilla is doing a set of 4 variant covers for the upcoming Hellboy miniseries “The Fury”
SHIT. YES.
I’m pretty excited to see where Mignola takes Big Red this year. He mentioned big changes in an interview over on CBR

Something about the Big Red Cheese fighting a dark and ominous Walking Eye has me really excited.
